27. Reset
The past 10 days have been a refreshing mix of running, relaxation, and quality family time. I’ve spent my mornings and evenings running up and down a beautiful path close to a stream, sometimes under the warm sun and other times in the misty rain. These runs, combined with indulging in loads of ice cream and plenty of good food, have made for a solid recovery break.
Last week, I managed to clock another solid 120km, keeping the momentum going strong. However, this week I’ve intentionally taken it a bit easier in preparation for the upcoming half marathon on Sunday. I don’t have big expectations for the race—I’m simply looking to test how my body reacts to pushing the pace a bit on a familiar distance and throwing a few gels in the engine. To give myself a small reset, I took Monday off from running, allowing my body to recover. With our travel back home today, I’ll likely be “resting” as well, which should set me up nicely for Sunday. I’ll go out tomorrow on my usual Frankfurt route.
The real highlights of the last couple of weeks have been the ample time spent with Coach Matthew and wifey, enjoying the experience of running in a new place, savoring delicious food, and, dealing with a bit less intrusion from work compared to other holidays. Coach Matthew seems to have thoroughly enjoyed himself too, from riding human-powered go-karts (oftentimes too big for him) to making new friends and devouring all the local treats. He’s gearing up for his first race on Sunday, and I’m amazed at how quickly he’s picking up speed—though he’s not exactly quiet about it, announcing his sprints with a triumphant “ta-ta-taa” battle cry.
It’s a short update this week as we transition back home, but stay tuned for the Canyon 21 on Sunday! It’s going to be an exciting day, and I’m looking forward to seeing how both Coach Matthew and I fare on race day.
1/ Seen on my run!
2/ Look who’s enjoyed his ice cream.
3/ Just in case I hadn’t mentioned the food.
